Emphysema update: I mentioned early in this blog that I was turning into a barrel (come to think of it, I may have sent that post to the Draft Limbo). If you can recall John Hurt from the first Alien , you'll know what a "chestburster" is. Well, when you have this, your lungs are the chestburster. The interesting part is what happens to your arms. They sort of slide outwards to accommodate, rather neatly considering: there are various frictions and creakings, but on the whole, the bones cope rather well, or have done so far. Sleeping is a bit of a problem, and has to be accomplished via a strategic arrangement of pillows. The main thing about having only a tiny, residual lung capacity is it forces you to avoid anything that might raise adrenaline levels or pulse rate. Also, your thinking becomes woollier by the day, due to long term oxygen depletion. Whole branches of logic become closed to you, and you have to keep going largely on random associations of ideas. "It's only wafferrr thin!"

Me refiero al compromiso de algunos miembros de la biempensanteoisie británica, la de Remain , con la democracia plebiscitaria (¿cuáles? Date un paseo por la portada del  Guardian ). Y es que no salgo de mi asombro al ver a tantísima gente que si hubieran ganado, aunque por estrechísimo margen, habrían celebrado con bombos y platillos el "triunfo de la democracia". Como no ganaron, desde hace una semana las páginas del Guardian se han transformado en un simposio filosófico sobre los límites de tan defectuoso sistema. De repente algunos han descubierto que los referendos "no valen" si no coinciden por lo menos dos tercios de los votos; otros han salido con la interesante teoría de que eso de votar es muy siglo pasado, que para "perfeccionar" la democracia habría que olvidarse de los votos y confiar en los sorteos; otros, más atávicos, salen a la calle a reclamar a grito pelado, o simplemente se ponen a llorar y a patalear. Y me parece muy bien que se cue...
