    Tengo un amigo del MPD (nadie es perfecto), un tipo habituado a ver con buenos ojos todo lo que hace Correa, que dice con gran tristeza y aparente conocimiento de causa que el que ganó las primarias del 35 para alcalde aquí en Durán es "peor que Marianita". Que uno del MPD diga eso es preocupante. Se supone, entonces, que ya no tendré bordillos, ni mucho menos asfaltado y peor todavía el tan esperado alcantarillado, hasta que toda esa gente nueva hayan llenado los bolsillos. Lástima: estaba un poco harto de llegar al trabajo siempre con los zapatos hechos un asco.

Un restaurante, para ganarse clientela, tiene que lucir impecable. Manteles blancos, recién planchados. Flores frescas en la mesa. Cubertería bien lavada, reluciente. El camarero tiene que acercase a la mesa - aunque esté muerto de sueño, de dolor, de rabia - con formalidad y corrección, sonriente, servicial. Todo eso supone trabajo. A veces es bueno indagar en las fuentes de primera mano. Al querer informarme del por qué tanta gente llamaba al Presidente “caretuco”, me tropecé con esto. Se trata de un extracto de una carta escrita por la ex embajadora estadounidense en Ecuador, Linda Jewell, a su reemplazo, Heather Hodges, aconsejándole acerca de los detalles de su misión en este país. Quicko. There's this dead good story in the Bible somewhere, called "The OK Salvadoran". It's about this bloke who is set upon by Trump supporters, gets mugged and beaten up and is left for dead in a pool of blood and vomit near the entrance to the men's restroom in a shopping mall in Baltimore. Well, after about ten minutes a Nobel prizewinning economist with a recessionary chin and anti-austerity beard comes along, glances at the bloke and makes a mental note to mention him in his weekly syndicated column as an example of the failure of current government policy to stem the rising tide of social unrest. He then disappears into the gents.
